Animal Rankings

Unfreeze an Animal does not ship a public Pokédex. What we have is official gallery art, the live loop, and six-player behaviour. This page lists the animals you will actually see and how to treat ice you cannot name yet. Cross-link: tier list hub for the S–C rules, animal index for the working catalogue.

Cow — B, session floor

The cow is the tutorial. Ice sphere, pink snout, gold horns in the icon art, campfire in the background. Push it first. Thaw it first. Let it print. Steal it only if you have zero animals and the owner walked off. Defending a cow while a dragon rolls by is how you stay poor. Replace cows when you own an A-tier, not when you spot one.

Cows spawn close. That is their balance: low drama, short walk, real cash. The getting started guide is a cow guide whether it says so or not.

Wolf — A, first upgrade

Gallery shots show a red-and-white wolf in a full ice ball on a slope. That is the first animal that feels like a steal target. The walk is longer, the sphere is easier to intercept, and players will actually chase it. Farmers should take wolves when the path is short. Stealers should bump wolves that are already in transit rather than starting a fresh slope run. See how to steal.

If you get a wolf home, it replaces your worst cow. Do not run four cows “for the collection.” This is a tycoon, not a zoo sim.

Dragon — S, server event

Red dragon in a melting globe, ice dragon dripping in your arms, dragon over the campfire — the studio put this silhouette on half the thumbnails for a reason. Dragons start movement. If you find one in the wild, assume you have been seen. If you thaw one, hire a sitter or buy melt time. If you steal one, finish the fire immediately; a stolen dragon on a slow melt is a flashing sign.

Solo players without 2x Melt Speed should only commit to a dragon when the server is sleepy or a friend holds the pit. That rule is protect your base in one sentence.

Unknown ice — rank it live

New animals will appear. When you see unknown ice:

  1. Note silhouette, colour, and spawn biome (grass, slope, snow).
  2. Watch whether other players turn.
  3. Thaw it if you can hold the pit; record whether cash jumped.
  4. File it mentally as S if contested, A if it replaced a cow, B if it was just another printer, C if the walk was a trap.

Do not wait for a wiki row to take a good block. Do wait for a finished thaw before you call it S on voice chat.

Mutations, shiny, neon

There is no official mutation table in the game description or shop. If a later patch adds shinies, this ranking will split. Until a changelog says so, colour variation in thumbnails is art, not a confirmed loot layer. Play the body type you can see in the ice.

Loadout thinking

A healthy plot in hour two: one or two B printers, one A, and an S only if you can defend it. That mix funds make money fast without turning your lawn into a PvP arena you cannot staff. Stealers invert the mix: skip B, contest A and S, dump anything they cannot melt before the owner returns — stealer.

When Thaw Labs publishes names and rates, we will swap these silhouettes for proper rows. Until then, rank with your eyes and your cash ticker, not with a fake 47-animal chart.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

What is the best animal right now?

Dragon silhouettes are the highest-drama S-tier. You still need B-tier cows if you cannot hold a dragon melt.

How many animals are in the game?

Thaw Labs has not published a full count. Gallery and live play confirm cows, wolves, and dragons, plus more ice still unnamed here.

Do shinies exist?

Not in any official notes we can cite. Treat new colours as unconfirmed until a patch says otherwise.

Should I steal cows?

Only if you have no printers. Otherwise steal A and S and leave starters to new players.
